Twinkle twinkle little star!

October 30, 2015 by Tina Olsson / Gavanna

So I was working away on my very, very basic, plain and nothing special plan for a red sweatshirt dress. Nothing to write home about, and certainly not very exciting compared to space travels, black holes and alien creatures.

So I was getting nowhere.

But suddenly over at The monthly stitch there was a call for clothes inspired by Space, The final frontier! And all I had was my plain dress. And right out of the blue ( black?) inspiration strikes! My dress shall be a star-dress!

And Ta-da, here it is! A quite simple jersey dress, but with seven seams exploding  out of one point, to become like the rays of a star or a supenova, or… Alright, not a poet 😦 OK.

So the dress is made up of many oddly shaped pieces, when sewn together they form a star on the left shoulder. The star is not a decoration but the actual way the dress is put together. Like the seam going under the right sleeve, it’s both attaching the sleeve and one of the star-seams!

Sounds complicated? Well, it took a few trials to get the pattern right, but surprisingly it was easy to sew in the end.

I also added a few details, like zipperd pockets and sleeve openings, to make it bit more cool  🙂

Originally I wasn’t planning to make a pattern for sale out of it, but now I’ve changed my mind, as this dress doesn’t look like anything I’ve seen for sale from any pattern company.

So this is also the release of the EDANE jersey dress pattern, yay! It’s available fas a pdf pattern from my ETSY shop in sizes 4 to 24, but to celebrate I will also make it a FREE download for some time!

So get over to my Dropbox and download the Pdf pattern RIGHT away 🙂

Meanwhile I have already experimented on a version that is even more, um, starry?

Read more about that one next week…

Bye for now.

Oh, and I cant wait to make a color blocked version, it will be so cool in black and white!

Red star – the movie!

What a great looking dress pattern. I love it. Still free?? The link goes to Etsy. Maybe you will have to explain how to get the pattern for free for those of us who can’t figure it out. Sorry to be of trouble.

Oh man, that’s such a cool pattern! I might need to get some more practice sewing with knits otherwise I’ll make a complete mess of joining those points, but I’m definitely saving this for later! Thanks so much for sharing it!
